DALSA bought out

One of the mainstays of Waterloo’s high-tech community is being bought out by an American company.

DALSA will be sold to California-based Teledyne Technologies for roughly $341-million, with the deal scheduled to close in February 2011.

DALSA makes high performance digital imaging systems, and has 320 employees in Waterloo Region, and about one thousand employees total nationwide.

When it comes to what will happen to all those employees, DALSA’s Vice-President of Business Development and Communications, Patrick Myles, says Teledyne has a history of “if it’s not broke, don’t fix it.”

Myles says the company will “maintain our operations and our employees in our various locations.”

Teledyne was attracted to DALSA for its unique technology
and excellent people and capabilities.

When the deal closes, DALSA will be known as Teledyne-DALSA.

Myles says the acquisition will also provide wider career opportunities to DALSA workers.

DALSA was founded in Waterloo in 1980.
