New jobless numbers

Canada’s unemployment rate fell three-tenths of a point to 7.6 per cent per cent last month, despite the economy creating only 15,200 new jobs — all part time.
But the underlying story in the Statistics Canada report is one of overall weakness in Canada’s labour force, with the exception of Ontario.
The agency notes that the decline in the unemployment rate is almost all due to 43,600 Canadians, mostly young people, leaving the labour market.
And while part-time work rose by 26,700, there were 11,500 fewer full-time workers in November.
The exception was Ontario. Canada’s most populous province picked up 31,200 new workers, with the services stronger showing strength.
In the Region of Waterloo, last month’s rate was 7.8 per cent, up from 7.5 the month before.
