Rangers win opener!

The Kitchener Rangers opened their 48th season on a very high note.

Gabriel Landeskog scored three goals to give the Kitchener Rangers a 5-3 win over the Saginaw Spirit at the Kitchener Aud last night.

Landeskog opened up scoring for the Rangers with the team’s second shot on net at 9:31 of the first period.

Saginaw’s Josh Shalla beat Brandon Maxwell with a shot off the side of the net that tied the game 1-1.

The Spirit out shot the Rangers 10-6 in the period.

Landeskog picked up his own rebound early in the second period to put the Rangers up 2-1.

At 9:28, the Spirit’s Michael Sgarbossa scored off a back-hand to tie the game once more (2-2).

The Rangers took a 3-2 lead off a power play goal by Tyler Randell midway through the third period. Landeskog picked up his hat-trick to give Kitchener a 4-2 advantage by 15:38.

Tobias Rieder closed out scoring 5-2 for the Rangers with just over two minutes left in the game.

The Rangers travel to Guelph on Sunday.
