Fatal collision on 401

A fiery crash on the 401 East at the Cambridge Service Centre has claimed at least one life.
The crash happened at 3:47 this morning when a tractor trailer and a car collided just before the Service Centre.
OPP Sgt. Dave Woodford tells 570 News the force of the impact was so great the truck crashed up onto the back of the car, and both vehicles continued down the highway some 200 metres to the far side of the station.
The vehicles burst into flame at some point, obliterating both the car and the truck cab.
The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene.
Woodford says the damage is so severe they can’t even tell if someone else was inside, and they’ll cut open the vehicle to get a better look inside.
Police can’t even make out the licence plates of the car to get an ID on who might have been driving.
The driver of the cab managed to get out of his cab without injury, and the chickens he was hauling are all fine.
No names are being released.
OPP closed the highway, except for one lane to ease congestion, until 10:30-am.
