People across Ontario will have a lot to talk about today when they ask, “how about the weather”
A smog advisory for much of southern Ontario is still in effect — including here in Waterloo Region and the heat wave will continue to bake the region.
Environment Canada has has also issued a humidex advisory, meaning the sizzling temperatures will feel even hotter.
Temperatures across the region are expected to be in the mid-30s today and humidex values are expected to climb to 40 or more.
Environment Canada predicts the heat and humidity will likely remain for three or four days until a cold front provides some relief later this week.
Some things to do to beat the heat if you have to go outside… Drink plenty of fluids, especially water before, during and after any outdoor activity, wear loose-fitting clothes and use sunscreen with SPF 15 or higher.
Public Health says certain individuals may be at greater risk from exposure to extreme heat, humidity and smog. Adults over 65 years of age, along with infants and young children are at a higher risk.
People with chronic heart or lung disease and conditions like asthma or angina should also try to avoid the outside due to the heat.
