Police granted special powers during summit

TORONTO, Ont. – The summit security screws have been tightened overnight, with official G8 and G20 restrictions now in place.

In addition, police have been granted special powers during the G20 summit to arrest anyone within five metres of the security zone who fails to produce identification or refuses to be searched.

Ontario passed the unprecedented regulation earlier in June.

The regulation will expire on Monday once the summit is over.
