Neighbourhood security video leads to arrest of alleged car thief

Police in Guelph have arrested a man in his thirties, after several reports of thefts from vehicles and a stolen vehicle in that city.

Police said security camera footage from residents helped find the alleged suspect.

“Several residents called police to report suspicious activity and thefts from vehicles in the area of Severn Drive and Henderson Drive,” said police.

“One resident shared video footage which allowed officers to identify the suspect.”

On the Labour Day Monday, police arrested the suspect as he was getting into a reported stolen SUV in the east-end of Guelph.

Investigators said the man had stolen property on him as well.

A 30-year-old man from Guelph has since been charged. His charges include trespassing and numerous theft related offences.

Police noted there could be additional victims and are asking anyone who had their property stolen from a vehicle to call them.
