Tornado confirmed in Midland

They’ve begun picking up the pieces in Midland, Ontario, where a tornado ripped through part of the town. A trailer park in the heart of Midland appears to have been hardest hit by the system that hit the central Ontario town at about 6:30 p-m Eastern Time on Wednesday night.
Environment Canada has confirmed that it was a tornado based on eyewitness accounts and damage photos. This is the third tornado of the season in Ontario.
The exact timing of this tornado, its length, width and Fujita scale damage rating are not known at this point. Environment Canada is sending two damage survey teams to this region this morning and will update the information during the course of the day as more information comes to light.
Mayor Jim Downer has declared a state of emergency, saying the area looks like a war zone.
Officials estimate 40 homes were destroyed and thousands of people left without power. There were however, no reports of serious injuries.
One resident of a trailer park in Midland, Ontario says it “looks like a bomb went off.”
Brad Elliott is speaking of the mess left behind by last night’s severe storm that packed a suspected tornado. The winds destroyed 40 homes at Smith’s Camp, damaged several other homes and factories in town, and uprooted countless trees and knocked down power lines.
Downer declared a state of emergency, and says a “small army” of residents has been working to assist the 200 people who’ve been left homeless by the storm.
It was a one-two punch by Mother Nature for the area.
First, the town felt the magnitude-five earthquake that struck in the early afternoon.
Hours later, Midland received the lion’s share of damage from a severe storm that rolled through the cottage country region after dinner.
