Great Strides Walk for CF raises over $100,000

The Great Strides Walk for Cystic Fibrosis was a huge success this past weekend as hundreds of people packed Waterloo Park to raise a record amount of money for cystic fibrosis.

Close to 500 people turned out for yesterday’s Great Strides Walk for CF, helping to collect more than $100,000.  That’s an increase of more than $10,000 over last year’s total.  The national goal was 2.5-million dollars.

The annual event raises money to continue research into CF – the most common, fatal genetic disease in Canada.

The event included door prizes, a magic show, a silent auction, and a free BBQ at the end of the walk,

The local walk raised more than $90,000 last year, meaning all involved beat that total by some $10,000 this year.

Special guests at the event included Kitchener-Waterloo MP Peter Braid and World Boxing Champion Fitz “The Whip” Vanderpool.

One in every 36,000 children born in Canada is diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis.
