Stats show about 4000 adults and children in Canada are waiting for transplants but only about 1000 transplants are done per year in this country.
This past week was national organ and tissue donor awareness week.
When it comes to registering to become an organ donor, our region is not leading the way.
Trillium Gift of Life says locally, Waterloo region’s rate is at 24 percent.
North Bay leads Ontario in the rate of organ-donor registrations.
A Toronto Star analysis finds that 34 percent of North Bay residents have registered consent for organ and tissue donation.
At the bottom end of the scale is Toronto.
The CEO of Trillium, Frank Farkell tells 570 News, your gift will impact so many. He says you could save as many as seven lives and if you are a tissue donor you could save, the lives of 70 to 80 people.
