An underground parking garage slated for Kitchener is more than $2-million over budget.
The underground parking garage slated for the area of Queen Street and Ahrens Street will add 412 spaces to the city’s core and will be accessed from Queen and Margaret.
The lot will be used by staff at the Kitchener Public Library, region and ministry of the attorney general.
Driving the cost up from $18.5 to more than $21-million is the need for two access ramps, expanded stairwells and shoring requirements to protect the gaol wall.
The parking garage is part of a project that involves a $40-million facelift and expansion for the library.
It will be paid for in part by the region and the province.
