The power tools are buzzing and so are the career hopes of the best future carpenters in the region.
Up to 500 students from both local school boards are taking part in the 2010 Technological Regional Skills Competition this week.
The carpentry competition started today at the Eastforest Homes Design Studio in Kitchener, with students participating in individual and team building competitions.
Eastforest Marketing Manager, Lee Deline tells 570 News their staff also conduct mock job interviews as part of the competition.
Huron Heights Secondary School wood shop teacher, Shawn Boyes, says now is the time when the workforce is “crying for skilled trades.”
Winners from this week advance to the provincial and possibly the national finals, both to be held at RIM Park in Waterloo.
