Guilty plea in Christmas card killing

The so-called “Christmas Card Killer”, Trevor LaPierre, pleaded guilty to second degree murder in a Kitchener courtroom Monday, and will be back in court today.
74-year old Hunter Brown of Kitchener was stabbed to death in December 2007 while delivering Christmas cards to a neighbour.
LaPierre receives an automatic life sentence, but the judge still has to decide on how early — if at all — LaPierre could come up for parole.
The defense argued Monday nothing beyond the standard 12 years is required; the crown has its say today.
The victim impact statements made up the bulk of yesterday’s proceedings.
Hunter’s wife, Bev Brown, and her two adult children, each spoke of how their faith in God has been shaken by the terror of the violent stabbing death.
Hunter was stabbed dozens of times in the face and head.
Hunter’s daughter, Sandra, used her statement to urge the judge to lay down the greatest sentence possible, asking, “how can a ticking time bomb be allowed to be released?”
The case resumes Tuesday morning at 10:00 a.m. at the Superior Court on Weber Street.
