Ready for anything

While earthquakes the likes of which we’ve seen in Haiti are generally reserved for distant parts of the world, Ontario is not immune to disaster. Our province’s history shows ice storms, tornadoes and even part of a continent-wide power outage.

570 News was on the streets this morning asking if you would be prepared for an emergency or natural disaster. And while most people we talked with said they don’t often give emergency preparedness a second thought, some admit to keeping extra water and food in their homes just in case.

According to Emergency Management Ontario, here are some of the things every home should have on-hand in the event of of an emergency.

– Flashlight and batteries
– A radio
– First-aid kit
– Non-perishable food
– Manual can opener
– Bottled water (4 litres per person per day)
– Blankets or sleeping bag
– Medication
– Backpack/duffle bag
