Hundreds of thousands feared dead in Haiti

Haiti’s Prime Minister tells CNN that hundreds of thousands of people have died as a result of Tuesday’s
earthquake.

The Red Cross estimates three million people have been affected by the quake.

The magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck just outside Port-au-Prince just before 5 p.m. Eastern time on Tuesday.

The United Nations says Haiti’s main airport is “fully operational,” and that relief flights will begin today.

The headquarters of the U-N peacekeeping effort is among the buildings destroyed.

U-N officials say fewer than five people are confirmed dead.

Canada’s Disaster Assistance Response Team is headed to the island nation.

Foreign Affairs Minister Lawrence Cannon also says a full civilian response is also gearing up.

He says Canadians with interests in Haiti and who want to get information can call 1-800-387-3124.
