Wicked winter weather in the forecast

Grab the scarf and mittens it’s going to be a cold day across much of the province.
Cold weather and snow squalls are forecast to continue the rest of the week in snow belts around Lake Huron and Georgian Bay.
Here in Waterloo Region 570 News weather specialist John Wilson says snow squalls will affect areas to the north and northwest of us. Today’s high of -8 could bring with it up to 2-centimetres of snow this afternoon. Overnight the temperature will fall to -10.
Snow squalls and treacherous driving conditions across Ontario led to hundreds of accidents and multi-car pileups over the weekend.
The Queen Elizabeth Way in Niagara Falls had to be closed for several hours while police cleared away wrecks. The Niagara Region got up to 30-centimetres of snow in some places.
Meantime, out east the cleanup continues in communities along New Brunswick’s east coast after a powerful, weekend storm surge flooded homes and businesses. In some cases the storm even lifted buildings off their foundations.
The rapidly rising waters and the storm surge forced local officials to declare a state of emergency in Port Elgin, where two dozen people had to be rescued from flooded homes.
Police report three deaths related to the massive storm that blasted the Maritimes, dumping up to 30-centimetres of snow on some areas.
