Toys for Tickets a success

The City of Cambridge’s first ever “Toys for Tickets” campaign will put $3,000 worth of toys under the Christmas trees of families in need.

Cambridge Fire Department, Captain Dave Mawdsley, this morning accepted 135 toys on behalf of the Salvation Army

The toys were donated in lieu of paying for a parking ticket, and range from stuffed animals to fire trucks to board games.

One-third of the people who got tickets during the 15-day pilot program chose to pay with a toy.

Mawdsley says he’d love to see the program repeated next year, and every little donation helps.

He adds the Fire Department is a bit behind on their larger Christmas Basket Fund program, and any donations that can still come in this week would be appreciated.

Donations to the Salvation Army can also be made through the 570 News Santa’s Anonymous campaign.
