Spotlight: A “Marketing” Opportunity Makes Mid-week Come Alive

By Kara Colynuck

Ahh, the eternal question: “Whaddaya want to do tonight?”

For residents of Waterloo Region, there’s an exciting new answer… at least on Wednesdays! Starting June 26, from 4 to 8 p.m., The Kitchener Market is opening its doors, and front piazza, for four consecutive Wednesday evenings to bring you The Mid-Week Market.

Expect a variety of vendors selling produce, meats, bread, cheese, and flowers; perfect for building your own mid-week meal or loading up for the weekend. You can grab dinner and dessert from one of the vendors in the Food Hall, and the Mid-Week Market will also be licensed with local beer and cider available.

Kim Feere, manager of the Kitchener Market, wants people to know it will be a different experience than their extremely popular Saturday Farmers’ Market. There will be fewer vendors (about 15 each week) with more of a focus on creating a neighbourhood gathering that can be enjoyed by the whole family, as well as the after work crowd. Each Wednesday event will feature live, local music, along with chef-run seasonal food demos. For the kids, there will be face painting and a variety of fun activities from ARTSHINE and the YMCA. For those who like to roll up their sleeves, they can join the DIY “Nailed It
Night” seminars or floral bouquet building classes.

The Mid-Week Market comes in response to user surveys that showed the majority of those asked were in favour of a summer evening market. “Now is a really good time for this because people have shown they want a second weekly market and there has been lots of development in the downtown”, says Feere. “Plus the ION LRT will be running, so people will have lots of travel options. We’re very excited!” Speaking of the new light-rail transit system, why not give it a try? ION service will be free for the first Mid-Week Market, on June 26th and the ‘Kitchener Market Station’ is only a two minute walk from
the market itself.

A great family night out. A chance to relax with friends after work. The perfect way to discover local food, artists and music. The Mid-Week Market at the Kitchener Market can be whatever you want it to be.

The Mid-Week Market will run on June 26 and July 3, 10, and 17 from 4 to 8 p.m. For more information, and to see all that’s being offered, visit www.kitchenermarket.ca/midweekmarket
