One of the region’s destinations for antiquing and collectibles, the St. Jacobs Antiques Market, announced that it will be closing its doors, leading a list of vendors to close indefinitely.
The local business, located at 805 King St. N in Waterloo, has stated the move will be temporary, saying in a post to social media that “the market will be closed March 1 and we will re-open shortly.”
“We are currently going through some restructuring changes. We all love this market. We are sorry for the inconvenience,” it continued to say in the post to social media.
While the market has stated that the closure will be temporary, there is no timeline or further details released regarding the business’s “restructuring changes.”
The local market said it previously had over 100 vendors, focusing primarily on collectibles, antiques, and vintage merchandise.
Regardless of the reasoning, multiple vendors have now spoken out, saying that it’s led them to shut down in the wake of the closure.
“Due to the sudden announcement of the closure of the St. Jacob’s Antiques Market and uncertainty of the future of that Market, I have decided to close down,” said Old as New, one of the market’s vendors. “Thank you to all those who shopped my space, you made a difference in my life that I cannot express in words. This has been a very stressful week, but I am continuing to work hard on my other booths and making things happen.”
According to various sources, including emails from vendors and comments tied to posts surrounding the market’s closure, the St. Jacobs Antiques Market had been in a difficult financial situation, with the store’s bank accounts previously frozen.

“Unfortunately, circumstances have forced Ferguson Collections to discontinue its association with St Jacob’s Antique Market,” the business said about its future with the market.
It should be noted that the St. Jacobs Antiques Market has no relation to the nearby Market Road Antiques, which is tied to the St. Jacobs Farmers Market
“Due to ongoing administrative circumstances at the St. Jacobs Aniques Market, I have decided to close my booth indefinitely,” said Chic Shack Antique, another vendor that had been located in the local market. “As always, I’m truly grateful for the support and continued loyalty from my clients. I hope the market will be able to resolve the situation and reopen at some point in the future.”
