Panthers edge Herd for 23rd win

The Kitchener Panthers scored two runs in the eighth inning to overcome a 2-1 deficit and defeat the Burlington Herd 3-2 on Sunday night at Jack Couch Park.

Walks to Yorbis Borroto and Tanner Nivins set-up Mike Gordner’s RBI single in the eighth with the winning run scoring on a throwing error by Trent Lunsford on the play. Nivins also added a single and RBI as Kitchener managed only three hits off losing pitcher Casey Bouilliere-Howard. 

Justin Gideon homered and Nolan Pettipiece had an RBI single for Burlington. Mattingley Romanin had two hits including a double.

Matt Vickers (1-2) picked up in the win in relief. Steve Gade started for the Panthers and went six innings, allowing five hits and three walks with one strikeout. Miguel Lahera picked up his eighth save by striking out the side in the ninth. Bouilliere-Howard (3-3) only gave up three hits but walked five with six strikeouts.

Kitchener (23-10) remains in second place while Burlington (11-22) is in eighth place.
