Winter storm warning issued for region

Environment Canada has issued a winter storm warning for Waterloo Region.
Precipitation is expected to begin as rain or snow as early as Thursday afternoon, and with temperatures expected to plummet by Friday morning, it may lead to a potential flash freeze.
Wind gusts of between 90 and 100 km/h will mean extensive blowing snow, starting Friday morning, which will significantly reduce visibility.
The weather agency says snowfall amounts of between 5 and 15 cm are possible in Waterloo Region by Friday morning. Very cold wind chills, into the minus 20s, are also expected to last into the weekend.
Environment Canada is asking residents to avoid travel if possible.
Meantime, there is a blizzard warning in place for Northern Wellington County, Arthur and Mount Forest. Between 25 to 50 cm of snow could fall in those areas by Christmas morning.
