Person found dead after explosion in Caledon Village

One person has been found dead after a home was completely destroyed in an explosion this morning in Caledon Village.

Provincial police were called to the scene on Maple Grove Road just before 6:30 a.m. this morning after they received several calls from nearby residents.

OPP Const. Ian Michael tells CityNews the age and gender of the victim is unknown and police say they have not determined if there are other victims as it’s too dangerous for them to go inside.

Endbridge gas are on the scene and police say the gas is still on. They have yet to determine if the explosion was caused by gas.

A large portion of the street, 30 to 35 people has been evacuated and a temporary warming station has been set up at a nearby McDonald’s with the assistance of Brampton Transit.

Several other homes suffered damage including a garage door bent in half. There was also a large field of debris.

OPP have closed Charleston Sideroad between Hwy. 10 and Kennedy Rd.
