A hit-and-run involving a transport truck led to a power outage in the Sportsworld Drive area of Kitchener on Thursday afternoon.
Calls started coming in around 1 p.m. to 570 NewsRadio about malfunctioning traffic lights at the King Street East and Tu-Lane Street intersection. The issue was due to an outage in the area that initially affected 1,126 customers, including along Pioneer Tower Road and Deer Ridge Drive.
Several other busy traffic lights were impacted, along with businesses and residences.
A spokesperson with Enova Power said a transport truck made contact with wires on a pole along Sportsworld Drive, which broke the pole and sparked a fire.
Waterloo regional police described the incident as a hit-and-run, and that no injuries were reported.
Hydro crews worked to replace the pole and equipment.
Power was largely restored in the area by 4:45 p.m. Just one remaining customer was listed as being impacted as of 6 p.m.
