Townships’ seniors programs get provincial funding boost

The Province of Ontario has pledged a new investment in four senior active living centers in Waterloo Region.

Kitchener-Conestoga MPP Mike Harris made the $227,872 announcement on Monday morning.

Programs to benefit include: The Wellesley Active Living Centre’s Active Living Program. The Woolwich Seniors Association at Woolwich Elderly Persons Centre. The Wilmot Active Living Centre and the Wellesley Village Active Living Centre.

Combined, those four organizations serve over 1,250 seniors living in those communities.

The goal of the funding is to help more elderly Ontarians stay engaged, active and social. Thereby adding to their quality of life while also helping more stay in their homes longer.

“From pickleball at local recreation centres to virtual book clubs enjoyed from home, these programs make a meaningful difference for seniors across our region,” said Harris in a press release.

The province has pledged nearly $23 million to support 416 Senior Active Living Centres across the province.
