OPP respond to weapons complaint at Guelph Lake Conservation Area

By Christine Clark

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) say an investigation was underway at the Guelph Lake Conservation Area on Thursday.

Wellington County OPP were called to the scene around 3 p.m. Thursday to a weapons complaint.

In an email to 570 NewsRadio Friday morning, OPP confirmed it was a pellet gun involved, and there was no threat to the public.

“As a response, and out of an abundance of caution, nearby campers and guests were evacuated out of the immediate area, and police began their investigation, alongside Guelph Lake Conservation Staff,” said OPP.

The pellet gun was reportedly in the hands of a camper, shooting pop cans on their campsite.

“The camper was also found to be intoxicated, and was then trespassed from the property as a result of an alcohol ban on the premises.”

No one was hurt.

The conservation area reopened shortly after 5 p.m. Thursday.
