Guelph police say a soggy smartphone dialled their 911 dispatchers over and over and over again.
In fact, they said the phone called 911 almost 200 times in just a little more than one hour on Thursday.
It started soon before 11 a.m., but there was never a voice on the line.
Police said the same phone kept calling uninterrupted until just after noon.
While that was going on, 911 communicators were trying to answer the real calls that were coming in.
The problem calls were eventually traced to an address in the east end of Guelph, and officers went out and spoke with the owner of the phone.
They told police they had dropped the phone in water, and didn’t know it was auto-dialling 911 until they heard it from the officers.
Police told 570 NewsRadio there was no criminal intent, so there will be no charges for mischief or any kind of offence.
