The KW Titans are celebrating Black History Month for game day at The Aud Feb. 1. Tip-off is at 3 p.m. with family friendly activities planned on and off the court for ticketholders.
The Titans partnered with Caribana Ignite to host a game day experience, filled with community and culture. Families are invited to come early, around 2 p.m., to participate in a kids’ carnival mask-making activity.
Black History Month is in it’s 31-year, officially launching in Canada in December 1995. Later in 2008, Canada’s first Black man appointed to the Senate, Senator Donald Oliver, brought forward a motion to recognize contributions Black Canadians have made and recognize Black History Month in the Senate formalizing the position of the Parliament of Canada.
“We’re so proud to be celebrating Black History Month,” David Schooley, owner of the KW Titans, said. “We’ve got a lot of special organizations and groups coming.”
While on The Mike Farwell Show this week, Schooley mentioned the team currently may be the best they ever had, with the coach adding in a new player for the match Sunday.
“We are over a third of the way into the season and we’ve only made one change, so our squad is tough and tight,” he added.
Schooley was joined by KW Titans player, Antoine Mason, for the conversation on 570 NewsRadio. Mason recently joined the team for the current season, known as leading scorer in Canadian pro-basketball.
The team is currently is second place, behind Sudbury 5. Mike Farwell asked Mason what it will take for the Titans to catch up.
“Just take it game by game, we can’t look into the future about records but as long as we take it game by game and get better, and get the wins, it will handle itself,” he said.
The KW Titans will have home court advantage to start off Black History Month. To celebrate they will be unveiling specially-curated Black History Month merch for sale, only available on game day at The Aud.
Tickets can be purchased through the KW Titans website.
