Another severe thunderstorm could hit the region

Another severe thunderstorm could hit Waterloo Region following the brief but intense system that rolled through on Canada Day.

Environment Canada issued a yellow severe thunderstorm watch and a severe thunderstorm warning for Waterloo Region on Thursday.

The national weather agency said conditions are favourable for storm activity in the afternoon and evening hours.

Strong winds are expected to be the main threat as gusts could reach up to 100 km/h.

There’s also the potential for large hail and more than 30 mm of rainfall.

It follows Wednesday’s severe thunderstorm that led to damage and impacted some Canada Day events.

An orange heat warning also remains in effect as Waterloo Region continues to be gripped by extreme heat and humidity.
