One of the more notorious weekends across Waterloo Region has arrived, with Homecoming weekend now in full swing.
In anticipation, Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) has installed fencing in key areas around Ezra Avenue and Albert Street as a precaution, looking to further contain expected street parties during the weekend.
It’s similar to what’s usually done around St. Patrick’s Day, with regional police set to be out in higher numbers throughout the area to limit unsafe behaviour.
In 2023, WRPS laid a total of 138 charges tied to Homecoming parties throughout the course of the weekend. In 2024, those numbers dropped slightly to 123. Charges laid were mainly centred around the Liquor License Control Act and Highway Traffic Act.
It’s a big reminder to stay safe and expect increased traffic throughout those areas throughout the weekend.
