The next edition of Kitchener’s official community plan is inching closer to completion.
On Thursday, the City of Kitchener announced that it has completed the technical studies behind “Kitchener 2051,” the document that will help guide decisions and shape the community for the next quarter century.
“These technical studies, together with community input received, is shaping a draft official plan that we are working on this summer,” said the City of Kitchener in a press release.
The studies completed as part of the creation of the plan include forecasting population numbers and employment, climate and energy initiatives, and land use.
Studies indicate that the city is forecasted to grow to more than 440,000 people in the next 25 years, with 180,000 jobs.
Advancing the city with the climate and clean energy in mind is also a focus. The climate study lays out plans for the city to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 80 per cent by 2051.
