Waterloo Regional Police are giving credit to the university community for being well behaved during the first few weeks of September.
A total of 107 charges were laid during the Sept. 23 celebrations with 10 arrests. The majority of the charges were in relation to road incidents and impairment with alcohol.
The number of charges is lower than the pre pandemic average of 330. Police spent a total of $160,100 on officers during the event.
WRPS Superintendent Brenna Bonn said police used a “high visibility plan” with officers that provided more enforcement and deterred unlawful behaviour.
“It was pivotal to our success was getting out into the neighbourhoods,” said Bonn. The same approach is expected to be used in March for St. Patrick’s Day.
