Highway 401 westbound has reopened at Highway 8 in Kitchener following a fatal motorcycle collision that occurred on Monday morning.
O.P.P. Highway Safety Division has identified the deceased as a 55-year-old man from Barrie.
Provincial police said that man was operating his motorcycle on the westbound 401 approaching Homer Watson Boulevard around 7:45 a.m. when there was a slowdown of traffic – that may have been caused by reports of a cyclist riding their bike on the highway in the area at that time.
It’s not believed that the motorcyclist was involved in a collision with another vehicle, instead losing control of his motorcycle, resulting in him being ejected and sustaining fatal injuries.
Police continue to investigate, and are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to contact them at 519-655-0150.
