Does the thought of gripping a door handle or pulling back a chair make you more concerned than ever before? You're not alone. It’s this growing concern that led the new product team at McIntyre Group to discover AEGIS Microbe Shield – an antimicrobial protection applied to surfaces that is effective for up to a year before requiring re-application.

If you haven't heard of AEGIS, it’s a Health Canada approved product that was created over forty years ago to control and prevent the growth of microbes in polymers and textiles. AEGIS has now been brought to the surface (literally speaking) in its revolutionary new format of AEGIS Microbe Shield, available through McIntyre Group at rethink-clean.com.

Recently, St. Jude's School and Scholars' Hall in Kitchener, Ontario had McIntyre Group apply AEGIS Microbe Shield throughout its entire campus. “At St. Jude’s and Scholars’ Hall, we're constantly striving to meet high standards. Maintaining an elevated level of clean safety for our students, faculty and staff is no exception,” says Frederick Gore, Director of Schools. “We looked closely at the safety and effectiveness of the product and were confident that AEGIS would serve as an important layer of protection that we needed in our campus.”

“Even with mask wearing, hand washing and enhanced cleaning programs, there’s an underlying concern in commercial, consumer and healthcare spaces that there’s not enough being done to protect.” says Dean McIntyre, CEO of McIntyre Group, “When we discovered AEGIS, we knew right away that this was an innovative layer of safe, non-toxic and long lasting protection.”

So how does it work and what makes it different? First, it’s important to note that AEGIS doesn't replace the need for disinfection. But it serves an important role in commercial cleaning programs. It’s a ‘cationic antimicrobial’ that remains on applied surfaces for up to a year, breaking down cell walls of microorganisms which causes them to quickly die (more product information can be found at rethink-clean.com). Many other chemical disinfectants that control microbes require constant re-application or have side effects, like damage to product surfaces and environmental toxicity. AEGIS doesn't – it has a history of safe use and durability, ensuring long-lasting antimicrobial efficacy.

“In addition to providing increased protection, our goal with AEGIS is to help companies reduce time, cost and waste within their daily cleaning programs,” says Steve Shepard, General Manager at McIntyre, “We're seeing a lot of interest in AEGIS from healthcare facilities, schools, auto dealerships, banks, restaurants, and retail spaces to name just a few.”
