Police recover $15K in stolen Jellycats, lay charges against a second person

Regional police have uncovered through their investigation that a woman previously charged in connection with a large stuffed animal theft was not working alone.

According to an update from officers, a man is facing several charges in connection with the previous theft and the recovery of 300 more Jellycats. The highly sought-after stuffed toys were first stolen from a store on Ottawa Street South in Kitchener.

Officials said the man is being charged after they discovered about 300 more Jellycats valued at over $15,000. Police believe the thefts took place between April and December 2025.

The press release also notes that officers believe the toys were stolen from 17 different businesses across Waterloo Region, Guelph, Burlington, Milton, Georgetown, Oakville and Orangeville. The toys were sold through an online buy-and-sell platform.

The 43-year-old man from Kitchener was charged with:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Trafficking in property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Conspiracy to commit an indictable offence

The 52-year-old Guelph woman previously charged in connection with the case was arrested again on Feb. 11 and faces further offences of theft over $5,000 and conspiracy to commit an indictable offence.

When she was first charged, police said they recovered 140 stolen Jellycats worth around $2,000.
