UW students to go online again for winter term

Students at the University of Waterloo can get used to seeing classmates on Zoom calls as the school says most classes will continue to be online for the Winter term.
“I know that most of you would prefer learning to happen in-person, as soon as possible,” said Feridun Hamdullahpur, president and vice-chancellor. “We had hoped to extend our gradual return to campus to more in-person classes next term, but the recent surge in COVID cases in Ontario means we are planning to continue our combined approach to learning for the winter 2021 term.”
The news came this morning in a letter to students, saying large courses will be online, while clinical programs, labs or tutorials will be available in person, subject to public health recommendations.
The school says smaller undergrad classes or research-based graduate labs could also run in person on a case-by-case basis.
All students on campus will have to meet physical distancing and public health guidelines.
“Whether you’re studying on campus at Waterloo or studying remotely, we all have an important part to play in limiting the risk of COVID-19 and maintaining safety both on and off campus,” said Hamdullahpur. “We must each do our part to keep our community safe.”
