Old Kitchener Sears store will not get heritage designation

By CityNews Kitchener Staff

Kitchener City Council has rejected a recommendation from Heritage Kitchener to designate the former Sears building in the city as a heritage site.

Council says the decision was made, in light of what it calls: “ongoing and co-operative discussions with the property owner”.

Instead, council has voted to allow the proposed development of the property continue through the site plan process, while ensuring that certain heritage elements of the external facade are retained.

The Sears store was located at Fairview Park Mall.
