City council has approved additional free parking in Kitchener

City council has approved additional free parking options to encourage downtown foot traffic during ION construction.
The initiative, launched today, is expected ease parking on evenings and weekends and boost downtown activity.
Free parking will be available on city surface lots every afternoon after 5 p.m. and two-hour free parking will be available on Saturdays in the City Hall, Duke and Ontario and Charles and Benton garages.
Customers who park longer than two hours will be charged $1.65 per half hour up to the daily maximum of $14.50.
Cory Bluhm Manager of downtown developement in Kitchener says “the idea is to help with construction frustration.”
The free parking initiative runs now until ION construction wraps up.
