Today marks the kick off to the 570 News One Warm Coat program.
It’s a partnership between the Rogers Kitchener Radio Group (570 News, CHYM 96.7, KIX 106) and Economy Lube in support of the Salvation Army.
For one week, from today until November 12th, Economy Lube locations in Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge will be accepting donations of new and gently used coats.
Promotions Coordinator with the radio stations, SarahJane MacCrimmon told 570 News the need for the coats is even greater this year, “to anybody out in the public who has coats available, please stop by Economy Lube locations in the area.”
The Salvation Army coat drive kicked off this week and supports people who otherwise couldn’t afford a jacket. Elsie Foster told 570 News it’s amazing how many people are in that category, “all we ask is that they bring their identification and they’re allowed a winter coat and a spring coat if we have that.”
Foster said “I just hope we can help as many people as are needed.”
One of those people in need is Coreen. She told 570 News the coat drive is a good idea, “I drive a scooter and I go out in the winter with it, so it’s nice to keep warm.”
“Means it will keep me warm” said Pierre, another client in need. He tells 570 News he doesn’t have very much stuff, “we’re on disability, and it’s a big help to us, big time, these are really good programs.”
Sean Addicott is a volunteer who at one time used the services offered by the Salvation Army. “I have a lot of time on my hands right now and I decided to give back to the community,” Addicott said.
“It feels good to be able to offer my services to the Salvation Army and I look forward to continuing to do this.”
