Train derails in Cambridge Sunday afternoon, none injured

Six railcars carrying non-dangerous goods suffered a minor derailment on Sunday afternoon in Cambridge near Eagle Street, but has not resulted in any injuries according to Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) rail.
The train left the tracks across from Riverside Park, near the area around Eagle Street and King Street in Preston around noon on Sunday, August 9. According to CPKC, the six railcars were re-railed and removed from the area on Sunday evening. They say the cars remained upright despite the incident, and that some wheels on the cars did completely leave the rail.
CPKC confirmed to CityNews Kitchener that there were no injuries as part of the incident, and no goods that may have been impacted by the derailment are dangerous to the public. Though the speed of the train at the time of the incident has not been confirmed to the public, CPKC says the derailment is considered “low-speed”.

The bystander said they believed the track appeared to be bent when they arrived on scene. As of Monday though, CPKC tells CityNews Kitchener that the track is once again operating and open to rail traffic.
The official cause of the derailment has not yet been made public. A possible may be related to the major Saturday storm that saw tornadoes and heavy precipitation throughout Waterloo Region, including Preston.
