Seasonal road closures, expanded patios returning to Cambridge

By CityNews Kitchener Staff

Planning is underway for expanded patio season in Cambridge as the Seasonal Road Closure Program returns later this month.

The City of Cambridge says starting May 25, Main Street will be closed between Ainslie and Water streets in Downtown Cambridge.

The closure will last seven days a week until Oct. 5.

Beginning June 5, Queen Street East will be closed between Guelph Avenue and Tannery Street in Hespeler Village every weekend until Aug. 30.

The hours will be 4 p.m. each Friday until 6 p.m. each Sunday.

The program is a partnership with the Downtown Cambridge and Hespeler Village Business Improvement Areas (BIAs) to allow businesses to expand their patios or outdoor spaces.

It’s an effort to create pedestrian-friendly spaces in the city’s core areas over the late spring and summer, and even offer programming like live entertainment.
