The Kitchener Rangers are ready to rock The Aud on Friday night to start Round 2 of the OHL playoffs.
It was an electric opening round sweep against the Saginaw Spirit, but the real test begins in game one against the Soo Greyhounds.
These two historic franchises haven’t faced each other in the postseason since 2018, when the Greyhounds scored in double overtime to beat the Rangers in game seven of the West Finals.
This version of the Soo is also tough. The Greyhounds have a couple of local boys in forwards, Brady Martin and Jordan Charron. Elmira’s Martin was injured for a big portion of the regular season, but is coming into form for the playoffs. Charron, from Ayr, impressed throughout the season and has some impressive firepower in his toolkit.
The Greyhounds took down the defending champions in Round 1, beating the London Knights in five games.
The Rangers will look to Christian Humphreys to continue his scoring streak. The Avalanche prospect has 9 points in just four games so far this postseason.
Game two will stay in Kitchener at The Aud on Sunday before the series shifts north to Sault Ste. Marie for games three and four on Tuesday and Thursday.
