GRT and GO expand transfer rebate program

It’s about to get easier and cheaper to transfer from Grand River Transit (GRT) to GO buses.

Right now, the GRT’s Connect-to-GO program offers a rebate on its GRT fare when transferring to and from GO trains. This expanded program will now apply to GO buses.

The new Connect-to-GO validators have been installed at the GO connection points at Sportsworld in Kitchener, Pinebush in Cambridge, and the UW station in Waterloo. The validator at the Kitchener train station has already been upgraded to include buses.

To participate, riders will need to enroll through the GRT website.

Once enrolled, riders will just need to tap their EasyGO fare card to get the rebate on the GRT fare.

The expanded program will come into effect April 1st.

Weekend issues on Kitchener line

It will be a very busy weekend in Toronto.

The Blue Jays will play its season opening series against the A’s Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Rogers Center. Canada also plays a World Cup tune-up match against Iceland on Saturday at BMO Field.

With so much going on, GO Transit has added extra trains to accommodate the added ridership.

If you plan to take a GO Train from Waterloo Region to Toronto, be aware that “critical track work” may complicate your travel.

Trains will run as usual from the Kitchener station but will stop at the Bramalea station. From there, riders will have to take a GO replacement bus from Bramalea to the 407 Bus Terminal.

At that point riders will be able to hop on the TTC Line 1 to Union station.

Rider should check the GO Transit website for specific details about their trip.
