More than 30 charges laid after string of break-ins in Waterloo

One suspect, five break-in thefts in Waterloo, and now more than 30 charges have been laid, according to police.

The Waterloo Regional Police Service said the investigation began back on Feb. 22, with the first of five commercial break-and-enters at businesses in the King Street North and University Avenue area.

The most recent break-in happened on Sunday, and police said their officers moved in with a warrant on Thursday.

Police said they raided a home in Waterloo and found stolen property, identity documents, and weapons, including a conducted energy weapon, an airsoft gun, and ammunition.

A 43-year-old man was arrested and charged with:

  • Break and enter – commit theft (five counts)
  • Firearm or weapon – possession contrary to prohibition order (four counts)
  • Disguise with intent (five counts)
  • Mischief under $5,000 (five counts)
  • Possession of identity document (five counts)
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Possession of credit card
  • Fail to comply with probation (five counts)

The investigation was carried out by the WRPS North Division’s Crime Suppression Analysis and Response Unit.
