Magic mushroom dispensary opens ‘new secret location’ in Cambridge

By Justin Koehler

After numerous police raids and the ultimate closure in Kitchener and Cambridge in 2024, it appears the magic mushroom dispensary FunGuyz is making its way back to Waterloo Region, in a more discreet fashion.

According to sources, along with its website, the psilocybin dispenser is set to operate out of the store Vape Guys, which is opening its doors in Cambridge at 18 Ainslie St. S in downtown Galt.

On its website, FunGuyz described it as “Our new secret location,” with its online map linking to the new Vape Guys store on Ainslie.

“We at Funguyz truly believe that magic mushrooms can save the world,” it said on its website. “We do our best to make the industry grow and prosper every single day.”

It comes after the magic mushroom dispensaries were previously hit by numerous raids from Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS), with one specific raid seeing police seize around $63,000 worth of drugs.

“We would like to remind the public that the sale of psilocybin is a criminal offence,” said Constable Chris Iden with WRPS in a statement to 570 NewsRadio.  “Businesses engaged in selling these products are operating unlawfully, and the substances they offer are neither regulated nor subject to standardized quality control measures.”

Other locations across Canada faced similar raids and pushback, leading to the closure of 30 different storefronts nationwide.

According to its website, FunGuyz still has 28 magic mushroom storefronts in Ontario and Quebec and maintains a market of online sales.

570 NewsRadio reached out directly to FunGuyz for comment, which said, “We do not have a FunGuyz store in Cambridge,” but didn’t make mention of the new “secret location” or as to whether or not it is operating out of Vape Guys.

Regional police said it “will continue to investigate complaints and take enforcement action where appropriate to ensure compliance with federal legislation.”
