Guelph park partially closed after ‘significant’ vandalism

Repairs are needed in Guelph’s Eastview Park after city officials said “significant” damage was done from vehicles driving where they shouldn’t be.

The city said a vandalism investigation is underway, and they are looking for security footage to get to the bottom of the incident.

Though a dollar figure for the repairs has not been released at this time, the city noted the cost of the fix will be “substantial.”

“The misuse of the facility not only destroyed sod but also disrupted important drainage features on the site, requiring extensive repair work,” read a release.

Those repairs inlcude restoring the site drainage, replacing the damaged sod and looking for ways to prevent future damage.

Those repairs however, can’t get underway until later in the year, when the ground conditions are more favourable.

The park bordered by Eastview Road, Watson Parkway North and Speedvale Avenue East will have all road entrances barricaded in the meantime, until later in the spring.

Pedestrians and cyclists will still be able to enjoy the park.

More information on the status of the park can be found here.
