Kitchener to connect Stanley Park to Uptown Waterloo by paved path

Kitchener is becoming more connected through the addition of an active transportation route connecting Stanley Park to Uptown Waterloo.

At a City of Kitchener Community and Infrastructure Services Committee meeting on Monday, approvals were put in place for the establishment of the second project of the city-wide active transportation route.

The city is investing $835,000 into paving 1.4 kilometres of trail, installing 80 wayfinding signs, and upgrading four trail crossings for the route that starts at River Road in Kitchener and ends near William Street West.

Through engagement with the community, the city learned that safety is a top priority for trail users, looking to ensure that road and rail crossings are safe, that there’s plenty of separation from motor vehicles, and that the trail is maintained year-round.

Work is set to get underway on the project immediately with an expected completion date before the end of 2026.
