Restricted firearm, drugs seized in Kitchener traffic stop

Two people are now facing a long list of charges following what began as a traffic stop for a suspected suspended driver in Kitchener.

It was on Sunday afternoon, around 2 p.m., when officers on proactive patrol spotted that vehicle in the Ardelt and Hansen avenues area of Kitchener, initiating a vehicle stop.

The subsequent investigation led to the arrest of the vehicle’s two occupants, a 41-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman, both from Kitchener.

Officers seized the vehicle and found quantities of suspected methamphetamine, fentanyl and prescription medication. Also found in the vehicle were a number of weapons, including a restricted firearm, a knife, a modified baseball bat and pepper spray.

Both suspects were held for a bail hearing, facing charges including:

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking (three counts)
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose (two counts)
  • Unauthorized possession of firearm
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon
  • Possession of a firearm knowing its possession
  • Unauthorized possession in a motor vehicle
  • Disobeying order of court
  • Driving while under suspension
  • Possession of an identity document
