A fatal shooting on Cambridge’s Lena Crescent from over a year ago is still seeing new developments, with one man having his murder charges dropped in court and another being arrested by Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS).
The incident took place on Nov. 27, 2024, when officers were called after shots were fired at a home in the area.
Reports stated that three people were inside the home when two men came to the door, and an argument ensued between the group. That’s when guns were raised, and those shots were fired, striking two people, one of whom was killed.
Officers stated that life-saving measures were attempted on the 40-year-old Cambridge man, but he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The other man, a 31-year-old from Cambridge, was treated at a local hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
It led to a lengthy investigation through WRPS’ Major Crime, General Investigations, and Forensic Identification Units, and in October 2025, officers arrested a 37-year-old man from Cambridge. He was charged with second-degree murder and attempted murder.
According to the Waterloo Region Record, that man appeared in court weeks later, where his charges were withdrawn. Crown attorneys stated that they weren’t able to feasibly prove he wasn’t acting in self-defence.

He did sign what’s called a 10-year peace bond, barring him from contacting the victims’ families or owning any weapons during that time.
When the man was first taken in, police stated that they believed no other arrests would be made in connection with the shooting, but while those charges were dropped against the Cambridge man, another man from North Dumfries was arrested and is now facing a new list of offences.
The 32-year-old North Dumfries man is now facing charges of:
- Being unlawfully in a dwelling
- Assault with a weapon
- Disguise with intent
- Possession of a controlled substance
Regional police said that the man is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
It’s also said that it’s still looking for new information on the over-year-old shooting incident, asking anyone with details to reach out to WRPS at 519-570-9777 or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
