Waterloo Regional Police continue to investigate a fatal shooting in Cambridge on Wednesday night.
Around 8:35 p.m., Waterloo Regional Police were called out to the Lena Crescent and Pamela Lane area due to reports of gunshots ringing out.
“Upon arrival by members of patrol, two males were located in the area – both suffering from gunshot wounds,” said Kyle Lambert, Inspector of Criminal Investigations with the Waterloo Regional Police Service.
Lambert said life-saving measures were attempted on a 40-year-old Cambridge man but he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The other man, a 31-year-old from Cambridge, was taken to a local hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The two men who were shot are known to each other and investigators believe it was a targeted incident.
Lambert said the investigation is in its preliminary stages and it’s not clear whether multiple suspects were involved in the shooting.
The investigation is continuing by the Major Crime, General Investigations, and Forensic Identification Units.
On Thursday morning, police tape was still around the entrance of a home on Lena Crescent.
Police expected to remain in the Lena Crescent area for several hours on Thursday and may return on Friday.
They continue to canvas the neighbourhood and are collecting any video evidence. They’re also appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
Inspector Lambert said the incident is the 20th shooting in Waterloo Region so far this year, and the third that was fatal.
