Plow crews, warm weather set to clear snow in Waterloo Region

Waterloo Region will get some much-needed sunshine on Thursday before an active day of weather to end the work week.

Temperatures are spring-like, with highs of 6 C on Jan. 8 and 10 C on Friday; however, the temperatures are set to dip back down below freezing overnight into Saturday.

“We’ve got a huge temperature drop coming our way for Friday, where temperatures could be near 10 degrees for the high, and then below freezing as we go into Friday night, then on Saturday we get another round of rain rolling through, we could have some snow,” said 570’s Meteorologist Carl Lam.

He added that winds could gust to 70 km/h on Friday as well. Temperatures are set to dip back down to seasonal by Sunday and into next week.

The City of Cambridge extended its snow event, meaning no on-street parking anywhere in the city, until noon on Thursday. The event was first put in place on Monday.

“Crews are returning to residential roads to clear what remains of snow and slush as part of our efforts to respond to resident requests for service over the past several days,” said the City of Cambridge in a message to 570 NewsRadio. “Plow operators will take additional passes to incrementally scrape down through snow as the warmer weather melts the ice underlay.”

Waterloo regional police are not currently warning residents to be on the lookout for falling ice or slippery surfaces; however, they plan on releasing weather-related updates throughout the week to address conditions.
